Thinking spring....
Greetings, family and friends, from Chowchilla, California. Today is Saturday, March 9, 2024.
It seems our travel decisions are now based somewhat upon proximity to "Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts" stores--and Chowchilla fits the bill.
When I reached out last weekend, we were riding out the great snowstorm of 2024 in Sparks, Nevada, waiting to be able to safely get over Donner Summit.
As many of you know, the snow ended early in the week, but traffic was backed up as the road was closed for three days. Mark and Jan decided to wait in Sparks until Wednesday, when I-80 would be cleared of snow and traffic. In the end, it was the right decision, as the trip over the hill went smoothly.
We did enjoy one full day of sunshine before we left Sparks, as did the dozens of squirrels that came out of their hiding places at the Marina....
The remainder of the week has been uneventful, as we've slowly moved "south" down the Central Valley, staying outside of Sacramento, then here in Chowchilla.
While here, the humans made sight-seeing trips to Fresno one day and Merced the next. They weren't gone long either day.
We leave tomorrow for a Corps of Engineers campground on a lake east of Porterville, in the southern Sierra Nevada foothills, where we are will spend nine days in warm weather and sunshine. All three of us are really looking forward to relaxing in the sun and actually "camping" in nature.
Additionally, we will be just outside of Sequoia National Park, and my humans plan to visit the park a couple of times during the week for hiking, sightseeing, etc. I'll enjoy the downtime while they're out.
I'll be back next weekend with pictures of our stay and of Sequoia. We may or may not have adequate "wifi," so bear with me if my next post is a little late because we need to go into town to post. A cat can only do so much....
