The Sonoran Desert

Greetings, family and friends, from the Sonoran Desert, north of Tucson, Arizona.  Today is Saturday, April 20, 2024....

We've been here since Wednesday, and the desert has been, to quote Mark, "spectacular."  We've got a site where we don't see or hear our neighbors, so it feels like we are the only ones here for miles....

I like not seeing our human neighbors, but have real issues with what I CAN see.  There is a wide variety of desert creatures here--lizards, rodents, snakes, birds, insects and who knows what else.  I don't know a lot about these animals, but sense that I want nothing to do with them.  For that reason, I refuse to go far from home for my usual walks with Jan.  I'm staying on the steps when out....

The wildlife seems to be particularly active at night, and I've done my best to point out their movements to Jan and Mark.  The humans don't have eyesight as good as mine, though, and are not interested in the goings-on in the brush.  I, however, spend much of my night awake and watching.

Mark enjoys one particular "saguaro" just outside our front door.  He's taken to calling it "Marge," and says its bulging eyes and tall haircut reminds him of somebody named "Marge Simpson."

The humans went to Tucson one day to visit "Costco," but didn't take any pictures from their visit.  They did bring home plenty of unscented cat litter, and I'm hoping they'll throw out that "Downy"-scented stuff they bought last week in an emergency.  Gross....

Before coming to the desert, we spent a week at Lake Havasu, including a few days at Cattail Cove State Park.  Saturday was a beach day for Mark and Jan....

We leave here Wednesday for the short drive to Tucson, where my humans will participate in a "rally" for owners of RVs similar to Emma Jean.  We've not been to a "rally" before, but understand that there will be social activities, educational seminars and other events, and the humans are looking forward to participating.  I'll likely spend the days napping in air-conditioned comfort, avoiding the crowds.

I'll reach back to you from Tucson next weekend....
