Arizona, you were amazing....
Greetings, family and friends, from Kanab, Utah. Today is Saturday, May 25, 2024....
We've crossed into Utah after six weeks in Arizona at twelve locations, including seven state parks. All three of us have been amazed and surprised by the beauty of Arizona, the strange creatures I've chased, and the unique desert scenery. We enjoyed our journey through the state tremendously, and I hope Jan and Mark will return soon, bringing me along.
Our last few days in Arizona were spent at Homolovi State Park, just east of Winslow. Unfortunately, strong winds (with "gusts" of up to "60 mph") were blowing summer in during our entire stay, so we spent most of our time "hunkered down" in Emma Jean.
The humans did take a morning to visit the Hopi ruins at Homolovi....
....And the graveyard of Mormon settlers who settled briefly in the area....
From Homolovi, we traveled to Tuba City, Arizona for a night, where the humans toured the Najavo and Code Talkers museums, and I found myself in a standoff with the feral cat that lives at the RV Park. He thought he could be on my steps, so I (or maybe Jan) chased him away. I (or maybe Jan) showed him....
Jan and Mark went to Zion National Park Friday....
They were especially interested in "The Narrows," a 17-mile hike in the Virgin River, and went to the area where humans much younger than them were stepping into the river to begin the hike. Apparently most folks don't get too far up the cold river before turning around.
This morning Mark and Jan went to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and took a picture of their feet (above) for some reason. Interesting, at least in the minds of humans, is that the sands were, in fact, a coral color. They got a good workout climbing to the top of the dunes, which they claim is much higher than the photos make it appear....
That is a lot of sand. For some reason, I suddenly have the urge to urinate, so I'll say goodbye for now. I'll be back to you next weekend from central Utah....
