Grand Canyon

Greetings, family and friends, from Homolovi State Park, just east of Winslow, Arizona.  Today is Saturday, May 18, 2024....

When I checked in last weekend, my humans and I were preparing to move from Cottonwood, Arizona to a four-day stay in Williams, the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon."

The humans spent a day visiting Williams and walked a section of "Route 66"....

....And went to the Grand Canyon for two days of hikes along the "South Rim"....

These pictures don't do justice to the magnificence of the Grand Canyon, they say.

They suggest that you, reader, play a game of "Where's Jan?".  She is somewhere in this picture.  Can you find her?  (The silly games you humans play....)

They drove to the park one day, and took a train on the other....

It was a spectacular stay in Williams.  Jan even took time to wash my tail that had become filthy....

....from living in state parks, playing in dirt and chasing wildlife.  I appreciated her help.

After leaving Williams, we stopped at Walnut Canyon National Monument, a canyon full of cave dwellings that the Hopi people lived in thousands of years ago....

Mark and Jan climbed down, then up, the 736 steps at 7,000 feet elevation into the abandoned settlement, and returned to Emma Jean breathless (not sure if it was the climb or the adventure that took their breath away).

The canyon was full of turkey vultures enjoying the breezes flowing through....

We arrived to the wide-open plains of Homolovi (another ancient Hopi settlement) yesterday, and took in the beautiful sunset at the top of this post.

Today will be a quiet day together in Emma Jean.  Jan and Mark plan to work on routing and scheduling for our late summer/fall trip to Montana, Idaho, Calgary and British Columbia.  By now you know how I will spend my day....

We will be here until Tuesday, when we will move on to Kanab, Utah.  I will reach back to you next weekend from Kanab.  Goodnight....
