Kanab, Utah
Greetings, family and friends, from Red Canyon, Utah, just west of Bryce Canyon National Park. Today is Saturday, June 1, 2024.
I'm happy to report that the air conditioner is working. We had a minor issue with it, and had no cooling for a few hours until we could get it fixed. Fortunately, Jan understands that her role is to keep me comfortable, and rubbed the ice block on me to keep me cool (above). Mark is jealous, and questions why he doesn't get similar treatment.
I last posted from Kanab, Utah, near Zion National Park. After visiting the park and other areas (see last week's post), the humans visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Best Friends is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the country, housing up to 1,600 animals (cats, dogs, horses, rabbits, pigs, exotic birds and others) on any given day. Jan and Mark toured Cat World and took the Grand Tour. Since I was born feral and spent my first four months fending for myself on the mean streets of Sparks, I appreciate the work this organization does. I wasn't happy, however, about Jan coming home smelling like the cats she petted there. And did I smell......goat!? Below are a few pictures from their tour, including some signs on the grounds, the amphitheater, Angel's Rest cemetery and a great lunch overlooking Zion Lower Canyon.
It seems Kanab was known as "Little Hollywood," as it was the base for the "western" movies and television shows when they were popular. The stars and crew stayed in Kanab, and that history is commemorated across town. Jan and Mark toured the various monuments celebrating the city's role in movies, and visited the "Little Hollywood" museum. Below are pictures of their visit to scenery used in the movies and shows. Can you find Jan in the street scene?
