Ants, bourbon and babies

Greetings, family and friends, from Caldwell, Idaho.  Today is Friday, July 5, 2024.

It's been three weeks since I last posted, as the humans and I spent a few weeks at home in Sparks, Nevada. Mark and Jan visited with family and friends there and helped family members with a work event.  Jan babysat one of the new human grandbabies on most nights while Mark went to work each night.  I stayed in the bedroom, letting the baby have her space.  I especially enjoyed Mark coming home from work around 11:00 p.m. each night and taking me out for midnight stargazing as he wound down with a beverage after his shifts.  The creatures that come out at night are....different.

The big excitement during our stay in Sparks involved sugar ants.  Apparently the city has been inundated with them, and they attacked Emma Jean, our home on wheels.  I've heard the human phrase "freak out," and think it might apply to Jan's response to the ants in our home.  After multiple trips to Lowe's for more pesticide, Jan chased them from our home, and in the process may have killed every ant in the Truckee Meadows.  We've not had an ant issue since we left Sparks and Jan is back to being her usual self.  Thanks to Jan--I was pretty uncomfortable with them crawling around in my space also....

We left Sparks last Sunday, and I was pretty excited to be on the road again--until we stopped for our first night in Winnemucca.  There was not much of interest for a cat there.

This next leg of our Adventure includes a meander through southern and eastern Idaho, then western Montana and into Canada to Banff and Jasper.  We'll then turn back for home through northern Idaho and eastern Washington and along the Columbia River gorge back to Winchester Bay.  From there, we'll spend some time in northern California before returning to Reno/Sparks in mid-November for the birth of yet another human grandbaby.  Here's the map of the plan....

We've been here in Caldwell--just outside of Boise--since Monday, and it has been absolutely beautiful.  The weather has been great (if a little warm), there's been great grass to eat right outside the door, and none of the passing humans have wanted to talk to me or touch me.

My humans--Mark and Jan--seemed to enjoy themselves here....

There have been fireworks here each night, which scare me a little, but Jan and Mark have been sure to be home each night to be sure I feel safe.  I don't understand the humans' fascination with explosions....

Mark and Jan took a trip into Boise one day and....

visited the "blue turf"....

enjoyed paella cooked on the street on the Basque Block....

and toured the Idaho state capitol....

As we move forward, one of the humans' goals is to drink most of the alcohol in the trailer, as they own more than will be allowed into Canada.  They've had some success and are putting in a good effort, but seem concerned whether they will be able to work their way through the "Costco-sized" bottle of bourbon in time.  They are committed to this important project, though.

We leave Caldwell Monday, and I'll be back to you next weekend from Twin Falls, Idaho....
